WALNUT
Description
American Black Walnut (Juglans Nigra)
The popularity of Black Walnut shows no signs of slowing down, and it’s easy to understand: easy to work, lustrous and deep coloration, dimensional stability, strong and durable. What’s not to like?
Generally straight and regular grain in a premium hardwood that glues, stains and finishes well, Walnut is used in furniture, cabinet making, veneers, gunstocks and any number of small woodworking pieces.
Fortunately, Walnut is also thriving in North America, particularly in the Midwest (Missouri is the leading producer of walnuts) and the Central-Eastern U.S. This species benefits from producing both fruit and lumber, and it spreads where many other hardwood species are succumbing to pest epidemics, due to natural chemicals that repel insect invaders.
