Description

Afrormosia: West African hardwood (Pericopsis elata)

Medium-brown heartwood, frequently reddish or olive-hued; sapwood is pale yellow and distinct, color will darken over time. Grain is typically uniform and fine. Highly decay resistant, it also resists termites and other pests, so it works well in exterior applications. Easily workable , Afrormosia is seen in furniture-making, flooring, boatbuilding.

One of several species you might hear called “African Teak” due to its appearance and durability. It is not related to Teak (Tectona Grandis), but it is frequently used as a reasonable substitute.

Valencia Lumber stocks 4/4 and 8/4 Quartersawn Afrormosia, rough or surfaced. Thicker stock and other cuts are available.
