WESTERN RED CEDAR DECKING

Description

Western Red Cedar Decking (Thuja Plicata)

An excellent choice for deck building, Western Red Cedar has a lot to offer. It’s durable (15-25 years on the durability scale). It’s environmentally favorable (its natural resistance to insects and rot means you can skip on chemical treatments). It’s stable (because it is hygroscopic (expanding and contracting naturally to the humidity in the air), WRC deck boards are less prone to check, warp or twist).

Did we mention beautiful? Red-to-pink with yellow/white sapwood drifting into the heartwood,  WRC has the looks to compliment your home. Plus, you can build your superstructure of the same material for a consistently striking appearance above and below (due to it’s weather-resistant structural characteristics.

The downsides. It’s soft, and will wear its dings and dents well into its old age. Cedar will weather to a silvery gray, and will require periodic maintenance. Penetrating sealer up front and after a light power wash every year  will prolong its good looks.
